Weird is good, and AI is the best companion your weird has ever had. The odd angle, the taste you learned to keep quiet about, all of it just got a partner that can build the strange thing with you as fast as you can picture it. Used well, AI is a collaborator for the strangest idea you can think of, and it never tires of your revisions. The standard work gets cheaper every week. What you do with the hours you save is where you get to be strange.
Reach for AI with no weird in you and everything comes out the same. Not worse, the same. Every landing page draws from the same well, every cold email opens the same way, every deck has the same confident gradient and the same three-word headline. The work is competent, and it is everywhere, and it slides off you like water. When a machine can produce infinite competent on its own, competent stops being worth anything.
What gets scarce is the opposite. The obviously human thing. The choice a model would never make, because no average would ever point there. People can feel the difference now, faster than they used to. Give them something clearly made by a real person, with a real person's odd taste all over it, and they lean in. Give them the smooth version and they nod and forget it by lunch.
I see it in our own bookings, which honestly surprised me. Clients started choosing our trainings partly because we refuse to pre-plan the agenda. We walk in, read the room, and build the day live, and that used to feel like a liability we should hide. It turns out to be the reason they call. One conference organiser told me she was excited precisely because the talk could never be repeated. Not packaged, not on a slide she could have read herself. Alive once, in that room, and then gone.
When a machine can make infinite competent, competent stops being worth anything.
This is where AI actually earns its place, and it is not where people expect. Let it take the standard work, the parts that should be standard, the formatting and the first draft and the forty variations. That is the grunt it was built for. What it frees is the strange part. The inner child who wants to try the ridiculous idea can finally afford to, because the tool makes the trying cheap. And the tired senior in you, the one who stopped having new ideas because every hour went to execution, gets those hours back. Play and experience let out at once, in the same person. That is the partnership worth having. The machine does the repeatable so you can do the unrepeatable.
So stop sanding it off. The instinct, when everyone around you looks professional, is to look more professional, to file down the odd edges until you match. That is exactly backwards now. Your weirdness, the specific taste you were slightly embarrassed about, the joke you almost cut, the angle nobody asked for, is the one thing in your work a model cannot reach for, because it has no reason to. It only lives in you.
So leave your fingerprints on it. Keep the choice you were about to delete for being too much. Build the day live and let the talk be unrepeatable. The more everything else converges on the same smooth average, the more the weird, obviously human thing you make will be the only thing anyone remembers. That was always a little true. AI just made it the whole game.
