This is the kind of thing we mean by business intelligence. We took the customer feedback sitting on trustedin.uk, a public directory of UK companies, and read all of it. Not the star ratings, the words. Five and a quarter million of them, across four hundred thousand businesses, turned into a picture of how the whole country actually performs.
British business is warm and unreliable
One finding runs through everything. Friendliness and professionalism score 0.84, the highest of any indicator we measured. Accountability, whether a business owns it when something goes wrong, scores below zero. It is the only negative figure in thirty sub-indicators. The country has invested in people and almost nothing in process, and its customers describe exactly that, in their own words, a few million times over.
Friendliness and professionalism. The highest score in the dataset.
Owning it when something goes wrong. The only negative of thirty indicators.
The pattern holds down to the postcode. London, the largest market in the data, comes last on every indicator, with a value-for-money score of 0.60 against a national 0.67. The lead sits with the South East and South West. None of it is guesswork. Every score traces back to sentences real customers wrote, on a scale from minus one to plus one.
Why it matters
A study like this used to cost a research firm months and a budget most companies never had. Reading a market at this depth is now something a small team can do in a fraction of the time, which is the whole argument behind our business intelligence work. The same method points at any market, any category, any question a company needs answered before it spends on a campaign. The customers have already written the answer down. Most businesses just never read it back.
